This week we started learning about Chanukah. We learned about the mean King Antiochus who didn't let the Jewish people do Mitzvos. The Jewish people did Mitzvos in hiding and when King Antiochus and his men would come around to check, the Jewish people would hide the mitzvos and play with Tops (also known as driedels). One day king Antiochus stormed into the Beis Hamikdash (the holy Jewish Temple) and broke all the jewish seals of oil. The Macabees are the Jewish army of hashem that tried to protect the Beis Hamikdash. The Jewish people came back the next morning to find the mess. They needed to light the Menorah but only found one bottle of oil left with the Jewish seal still attached. They lit the menorah and a miracle happened. The Menorah lit for eight days.
This week we decorated our own Driedel for the Bulletin board. We added Jewish stars and stickers of different Mitzvos we do. This was a great activity for the children to practice using their fine motor skills to peel and stick the stickers.
We then made chocolate coins with gold glitter and glue. Chocolate coins is what we eat when playing the Driedel (top) game.
We made Menorahs out of Popsicle sticks. We made sure to add all 8 candles and one for the Shamish(the candle that lights the other 8 candles).
We learned a New Song...
One little, two little, three little candles
Four little, Five Little, six little candles
Seven little, Eight little Chanukah Candles
and one is for the Shamish.
We started making our own Menorahs that we will get to light on Chanukah.
First we sanded it...
Then we added Tissue Paper to it...
Soon we will finish it...
