September
Weeks For Nursery 2
Dear
Parents,
The month of September had been a
transition month for our students. During
this short school month our students were adjusting to daily routines, their new
environment and were making new friends. Students daily exercised their fine motor,
gross motor, executive functioning and social emotional skills. We learned about the Holidays of Suckot, Shemini Atzeret & Simchat Torah. The shape of the month was a circle and the color green.
During the week of Suckot, we shook the Lulav and Etrog and had a great opportunity to eat lunch in the Sukah. We
created paper chains to decorate our Sukah at school and made decorations to
take home. Students learned some of the colors in the Sukah are brown and green
and created Marble Art Sukahs. Marble Art focused on strengthening student’s
fine motor skills. Students used pipettes to transfer paint on to their white papers and had to use their index finger and thumb to take out one marble to put it
in their deep aluminum pan. This exercise also focused on hand eye coordination by having
students tilt their own pans to spread the colors.
For Simchas Torah, we read
"Torah Opposites" and went to Shul for a great rally. We sang songs we learned in the classroom and walked around the Shul holding Siddurs. The students made
Torah cookies by measuring, mixing and forming with a little bit of guidance. Smichas Torah students learned that this is
when we celebrate finishing the Torah portions and we created torah flags in honor of
this celebration.
During these weeks we also reviewed the shape circle and
focused on the color green. Students had decorated and created paper telescopes
and when looking through them they saw the class in circular form. We created circles
using yarn and imprinted circles with paint.
Students also had the opportunity to create circles by drawing them to be of various size and colors. They continued
to learning about circles by creating circular paper chains for the Sukah.
The weeks of September have been a great
adjustment for our students by learning routines and classroom rules. It is
important to encourage a positive classroom environment for your child and one
way of doing that is by expressing interest and encouragement about school to your child. In addition, we would love to
hear from you dear parents about ways to help us create a really enjoyable and successful year with your child. Feel free to contact us with your ideas and suggestions.
Best,
Morah
